The Fishing Challenge

Inshore / Offshore Species Rules / Regulations
The team with the highest total points during the tournament wins. IGFA rules apply. Catch the fish anyway you can, with the exception of snagging, electric reels, wire lining or spear fishing. It is not legal to use treble hooks, except as trailers. It is legal to use conventional and spinning reels, live or artificial baits. Wire leaders can be used during the offshore challenges. All rules and regulations pertaining to the state of Florida must be obeyed. Regulations do change from time to time and therefore can and will be changed if need be, no matter at what time of year the changes are made by the state of Florida. Fishermen can be picked up anytime after 7:00am EST, and must return to the original pick up spot no later than 10 full hours from the moment they leave the dock for Offshore tournaments and 8 full hours for Inshore tournaments.There will be a 2 point per minute late penalty assessed to any team that returns after the 8 or 10 hours have passed. Each team will have a 1 hour window or up to 120 points total deduction before they are disqualified. There will be no contact between competing captains during the hours of the tournament. Neither contestant will be allowed to be in contact with the other tournament boat during tournament hours. No one is allowed to speak about the outcome of their fishing day until the host gives the final numbers at the end of the day. The camera operators on each boat will act as observers and will help in conjunction with the captains on overall rules.

All fish must meet the legal minimum size or meet the tournaments’ minimum size to be eligible for points. Only 2 (two) of any one species may be measured and counted towards the final score. Boats must be back at the dock 10 hours after the start of the tournament. If there is a tie in points, we will go to a largest fish format, starting with the single largest amberjack. If the teams are still tied, we will move to the next fish and so on. Billfish, Goliath Grouper and Sharks are catch and release only. Must have fish next to the boat and touch the leader in order to count. A bonus will be awarded if more than the 3 eligible species of fish are caught.

Species bonus: 4 species = 15 points - 5 species = 20 points - 6 species = 25 points 7 species = 40 points - 8 species = 50 points - 9 species = 60 points - 10 species = 80 points Only one bonus will be awarded

Cobia, King Mackerel, Bluefish, Permit, Florida Pompano and Spanish Mackerel will be measured form nose to the fork in the tail. All others will be measured nose to tail. For Tarpon, Goliath Grouper and Sharks are catch and release only. Must have fish next to the boat and touch the leader in order to count. Boats must be back at the dock 8 hours after the start of the tournament. If there is a tie in points, we will go to a largest fish format. We will start with the single heaviest Snook. If the teams are still tied, we will move to the next fish and so on.

The top anglers and their Captain with the most amount of points during the six weeks of offshore and Inshore challenges will win the trip to the Bahamas for the Bahamas Ultimate Challenge. The winners will be brought back for the final Fishing Challenge All Stars event in Venezuela, South America. All contestants and Captains will be given a laminated copy of the point values before the tournament begins. All Measurements and decision of the official score keeper are final, except where the producer upon editing time reviews on film any discrepancy and acts upon any changes.
